Winslow ends Hermon softball season in North Class B Regional Final

 BREWER – The Class D, C, and B Regional Finals for softball were all played Saturday at Brewer High School on Coffin Field.  Hermon's Katie Fowler with the pitch! (Photo by Ron Hawkes/MSR) On the day there were three shutouts, Class C started the day with #2 Mattanacook defeating #5 Orono 10-0.  In the second game of the day, Class D #3 Hodgdon squeezed past #8 Machias 2-0. And the night game for Class B saw #8 Winslow defeat another higher seed beating #6 Hermon 3-0. In the Hermon-Winslow game Emma Michaud went the distance in the circle for the Black Raiders of Winslow. She pitched seven innings allowing just three hits and three walks while fanning 12 in the win. At the plate for Winslow, Leah Knight (2singles, 2 runs); Kate Nichols (single, run); Harly Pomerleau (single, RBI); Michaud (RBI); and Kaci Fortin (single). Hermon softball knocks off Ellsworth advances to the regional finals

 ELLSWORTH – The #6 Hermon Hawks softball team being on a roll is putting it mildly. On Friday, they eliminated #3 MDI in extra innings, and turned around Saturday and knocked off #2 Ellsworth 4-3. Hermon's Molly Simcox started the game at catcher, went to third base in the second, singled in what would become the winning run in the second as well. Another outstanding game for Simcox. The Regional Final game is scheduled for June 14 at Brewer High School for an 8 p.m. game. The winner of the Regional will face either #1 York or #2 Gardiner from the south division for the Class B State Softball Championship. Saturday in Ellsworth the Hawks got a big blast from Lyndsee Reed in the first inning and six innings of unbelievable relief pitching from Katie Fowler. Hermon –The Hermon girls relied on their pitching and solid defense to take a lead and hold it, giving up just one run in the top of the seventh as the Hawks take a 4-1 win over the Mariners of Rockland. Oceanside finishes its season at 5-12 with the loss.  In the circle for Hermon, freshman Katie Fowler got the start going three innings allowing just two hits, no walks, while striking out two. HAMPDEN – The Hampden softball team hosted Hermon in a cross-class game Friday afternoon with the Class A Broncos taking a 9-3 win over Class B Hawks.  Hampden's Meaghan Delahanty is seeing the ball like it was a beachball the past few games. Tonight was a three double 4-for-4 performance at the plate. (Photo by Ron Hawkes/MSR) Hampden's Meaghan Delahanty has been dangerous with the bat as of late and today was no different with a 4-for-4 day at the plate, three doubles, single, two runs and two RBIs. Not a bad day at the plate.  The rest of the offense came from Maya Brown (single, run); Allee Wellman (single); Danielle Masterson (3 singles, 2 runs, RBI), Cam Neal (double, run, walk); Charlee Chute (single, 2 runs, RBI); Callie Small (2 singles, run, RBI); Emily Bishop (RBI); and Brooklyn Fortin (double, single, 3 RBIs). John Bapst slips past Hermon 9-8 in softball action Wednesday

BANGOR – The Crusaders picked up a Heal Point worthy win over Hermon, 9-8, Wednesday at the Union St Soccer and Softball complex.  Hermon's Olivia Johnson takes a cut during Wednesday's game in Bangor against John Bapst. With the win John Bapst goes to 6-6 on the season and sits in 10th place in the Heal Point Standings. Hermon falls to 6-4 and still sits in fourth place in the Heal Point Standings.  This was a battle all the way for both teams. Visiting Hermon got on the scoreboard first with three runs top of the first. The Hawks added another in the second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh falling just a run shy of the tie. John Bapst tied the game in the bottom of the second when they plated four runs. Hermon's Katie Fowler went five innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on 11 hits and did not walk a batter. She had three strikeouts. G. Glenburn Rec 5/6 grade boys tournament March 12-13

 GLENBURN – The Glenburn Recreation Department is hosting an eight team, 5/6 grade boys basketball tournament this weekend at the school. We will then be covering the two semifinal games and the championship game on Sunday. All recaps from each game and the championship game story will be right in this article. Championship Sunday at the Glenburn Rec 3/4 Boys hoops tournament

GLENBURN – All day Saturday and again this Sunday morning the eight teams participating in the weekend tournament played their best to make it into the afternoon and evening semifinal and championship day. Hermon defeated Maranacook 33-24 for the win.  (Photo by Skip Hawkes/MSR)  After a great morning of exciting basketball, the four teams heading to the finals were announced with #1 Pittsfield and #2 Five Town (Camden), going in from Pool A, to play #1 Hermon and #2 Maranacook from Pool B. SEMIFINAL #1 Maranacook 33, Pittsfield 25 Maranacook opened the game with a 6-1 run and ended the first quarter with an 8-3 lead and never looked back as they never trailed in the game. Liam Ferren led Maranacook with 11 points followed by Landon Magnusson with seven.  Pittsfield's Jake Moore had six points and Emmett Sulley five.  MARANACOOK---8---14---4---7---

Glenburn Rec 3/4 Boys Hoop tournament tipped off Saturday morning

GLENBURN – The Glenburn Recreation is running its third basketball tournament of the year March 5th and 6th, for the third and fourth grade boys.  All games are at Glenburn Elementary School on the Hudson Rd.  Some game action from the Glenburn Rec 3/4 boys basketball tournament on Saturday in Glenburn.  (Photo by Skip Hawkes/MSR) This is an eight team tournament featuring teams from Pittsfield, Five Town (Camden), Glenburn, Lincoln, which make up Pool A. Pool B consists of teams from Holbrook, MDI, Hermon, and Maranacook. Glenburn Rec 3/4 girls tournament gets underway

The Glenburn Rec's second of four tournaments got underway Saturday morning with the 3rd/4th grade girls grabbing the spotlight on February 26th and 27th at the Glenburn Elementary School. The tournament consists of eight teams divided into two Pools. In Pool A is Presque Isle, Gardiner, Maranacook and Hermon. Pool B teams are host team Glenburn, Oceanside, MDI and Belfast. On Saturday, February 26 the Glenburn Rec 3rd/4th grade girls tournament got underway, and will conclude Sunday afternoon with two semifinal games and a championship game.  (Photo by Skip Hawkes/MSR) Saturday is pool play for all eight games, and pool play continues Sunday morning with four additional games. Sunday afternoon the Single Elimination Round begins with two semifinal games to determine the championship game match up.
