Glenburn Rec 5/6 grade boys tournament March 12-13

 GLENBURN – The Glenburn Recreation Department is hosting an eight team, 5/6 grade boys basketball tournament this weekend at the school.

Teams include, Glenburn,  Hermon, Maranacook, Belfast, Gardiner 5th, MDI-Paulsen Green, Gardiner 6th, and MDI-Hoffert White. 

Maine Sports Report will be covering the first four games today to insure we get photos from each of the eight teams. We will then be covering the two semifinal games and the championship game on Sunday. All recaps from each game and the championship game story will be right in this article. Photo galleries will be added later to all seven games covered. 

SUNDAY GAMES
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 15
Hermon 43, Glenburn 37

Hermon took control of this game in the first half, but Glenburn came back in the second half to make it a game to the end when they just ran out of time.

The Hawks led 18-10 after the first quarter and took a 26-14 lead into the halftime break. Glenburn cut the lead a little in the third quarter to make to 34-24 heading into the final quarter of play. Glenburn had a barrage of long distance baskets in the fourth, but not enough to catch the Hawks as they went on to capture the Glenburn Rec Department 5/6th grade boys hoops tournament. 

Carter Dubois was on fire for Hermon scoring 22 points including six 3-point baskets.  Levi Scripture added 11; Lane York four; and Abram Shorey, Tyler Cote, and Reid Garner added two each. 

Hermon was 2-of-4 (50 percent) from the foul line and they had nine 3-pointers, the six from Dubois and three from Scripture. 

For Glenburn, Zachary Helms had a team high 12 points; Kohen Corriveau six; Caleb Campbell, Cooper Knaide, and Wiley Ward five each; and Griffin Dunton four. 

Glenburn was 2-of-6 (33 percent) from the charity stripe and they knocked down three 3-pointers, one each from Campbell, Knaide, Ward.

SEMIFINAL GAME 13
Glenburn 40, Maranacook 29

The boys from Glenburn entered the playoffs 2-1 facing Maranacook 3-0. Glenburn got off to a great start and after a tough third quarter cruised to a solid 40-29 win to advance to the championship game.

Glenburn took a 13-4 first quarter lead and extended it to 20-8 at the halftime. Maranacook found a way to score in the third quarter outscoring Glenburn 16-9 to close it to a 29-24 lead for Glenburn heading into the final stanza. 

Leading the way for Glenburn was, Griffin Dunton who had a game high 18 points.

For Maranacook, Alex Labelle had 11 points and Connor Labrie 10.

SEMIFINAL GAME 14

Hermon 43, Gardiner 6th 41

This was a game of quarters that was won by Hermon by a slim margin. With the win, Hermon will play Glenburn in the championship game.

Gardiner took a 12-11 lead in the first quarter, however, Hermon came back strong outscoring Gardiner 15-2 to take a 26-14 lead into halftime. The two teams stayed even in the third quarter leaving Hermon  with a 35-23 lead going into the final quarter of play. This is where Gardiner had their best quarter outscoring the Hawks 18-8 just falling short of the come back win. 

Leading the way for Hermon was, Carter Dubois with 19 points and Levi Scripture with eight.

For Gardiner, Colin MCCormick had a game high 21 points followed by Grayson Greenleaf with six.

SATURDAY GAMES

GAME 1 - HERMON 34, GLENBURN 30

This was a close game from start to finish with Hermon coming out on top by a slim 4-point margin.

The Hawks led after each quarter, 7-6, 21-18, 28-22, and the final of 34-30.

Leading the way for Hermon was, Carter Dubois with 10 points and Lane York with nine including one 3-pointer.

Hermon Team Members, Abram Shorey, Tyler Cote, Ethan Garner, Levi Scripture, Lane York, Samuel Cormier, Ried Garner, Jackson Harris, Kole Alexander, and Carter Dubois. Coaches are Ryan Scripture and Brad Harris. 

Glenburn was led by Kohen Corriveau with a game high 14 points including three, 3-pointers. 

Glenburn Team Members,Miles Gonzales, Caleb Campbell, Jonathan Severance, Griffin Dunton, Kohen Corriveau, Noah Evans, John Witherly, Zachary Helms, Cooper Knaide, and Wiley Ward. Coaches are Kerry Corriveau and Mark Severance.

 GAME 2 - MARANACOOK 39, BELFAST 9

This was a tough first game for Belfast as Maranacook proved to be too much for the Lions to handle this morning.

Maranacook led after each quarter, 10-2, 27-4, 33-4, and the final of 39-9.

Setting the pace for Maranacook were, Alex Labelle with a game high 14 points and Connor Labrie with 12.

Team members for Maranacook are, Johan Meserve, Josh Hertzing, Connor Labrie, Henry Tarbuck, Alex Labelle, Wyatt Marco, Cam Jones, Wyatt Farrington, and Will and Connor, (no last names provided).

For Belfast, Tessi Carbisero had three points while three others had two points each.

Belfast team members are, Kellon Harvey, Brody Ingraham, Sullivon Treat, James Faloner, Tessi Carbisero, Cole Dusoe, Hunter Mehiran, Thatcher Otis, Tyson Bryant, Ashton Doolon, Ross Philbrook, and Noah Deetjan. The Coaches are Ryan Otis and Steven Boyer.

GAME 3 - GARDINER 5TH 35, MDI WHITE 18

The Gardiner 5th grade boys opened the game with an 8-0 run and cruised to the win in the third game of the day at Glenburn.

Gardiner led after each quarter, 8-0, 22-6, 31-8, and the final of 35-18

Leading the way for the Tigers were, Rocco Jordan with 12 points and Luke Whalen with 11.

Team Members of the Gardiner 5th are, Xander Moody, Rocco Jordan, Luke Whalen, Wyatt Gero, Aedyn Felvey, Jameson Staples, Brady Mercier, Riley Garate, and Gavin Marquis. The Coach is Rudy Fish.

For MDI-White, Wyatt Ford had a team high 10 points and James Burke four. 

MDI-White team members are, Finn Merchant, Wyatt Ford, Jordan Chan, Jackson Hoffert, Landon Stoll, Gunner Vines, James Burke, and Brandon Dandurand. The coach is Todd Hoffert

GAME 4 - GARDINER 6TH 40, MDI GREEN 29 

A huge third third quarter for the Gardiner 6th boys all they needed to overcome a stubborn MDI_Green team.

Gardiner took a 6-4 first quarter lead, but fell behind in the second giving MDI the 19-16 halftime lead. Gardiner came out in the third and outscored MDI 15-2 to take a 31-21 lead into the final stanza where they cruised to a 40-29 win.

Leading the way for Gardiner 6th was, Colin McCormick with a game high 15 points, and Dan Jamison with 13.

Gardiner 6th team members are, Elliot Colwell, Grayson Greenleaf, Trevor Dawson, Brayden Marone, Colin McCormick, Dan Jamison, Anthony Cyr, Cooper Treptow, and Connor Simpson. The coach is Cody Dawson.

For MDI_Green, Tysen Mace had 11 points and Trevor Brophy eight. 

Team members from MDI-Green are, Elias Paulsen, Tysen Mace, Lymen Pinkham, Coe Thurston, Trevor Brophy, Sylas Witham, Eli MacDonnell, Lucas Olsen, and Oliver Picard. The coach is Ben Paulsen.
